Philly Conference Status
As of this writing we have 40 people scheduled to be present at the conference. I expect that we'll probably pass 50 by 3/27, considering that hardly any of the local people have registered. In addition to HP's donating a 1-meg HP95 for a door prize, Sparcom will be donating a "Drive95" portable disk drive. There may be other "big" prizes as well.
The conference proceedings are coming together slowly, with only about a third of the speakers having sent in their papers at this point. It looks like John Murphy and I will be working until the very last minute to get the material printed and bound.
SMI did finally print and mail a special issue of the Forty Eight Forum which not only was accompanied by our conference flyer, but had a cover story about the conference. That should reach almost a thousand people by the end of this week.
The new EduCalc catalog (#55) is off the presses, but I haven't as yet seen it. From what was read to me over the phone, there is a really nice writeup on the conference. Too bad that the issue ended up being printed a whole month in advance. Perhaps this will promote sales of the proceedings and videotapes afterward.
The Penn Tower Hotel hospitality suite will be room 1925 and we will have it from 3PM to 9 PM on Friday, March 27th for anyone who wishes to gather on the day before our event. Check the additional sheets in this handout with more details on schedule, parking, facilities, etc.
I hope to see many of local people present at Drexel next weekend. This is an opportunity that only comes around these parts every ten years or so.
